ABOUT
Artiste, Writer, Producer are just a few of the hats worn by Mical Teja Williams, known professionally as “Mical Teja or Teja”. Hailing from the humble community of Gonzales in the twin island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago a musical genius emerged! From childhood to adulthood his passion and love for music has evolved into a successful business and career. It is significant to note that one of his first writing opportunities came at the tender age of fifteen (15), where he penned the song titled “Carry On” for Soca superstar Destra Garcia, which went on to place in the International Soca Monarch Finals in Trinidad and Tobago. Since then, he has produced and written music for a multitude of performers across the Caribbean such Machel Montano, Kevin Lyttle, Kerwin Du Bois, Kes The Band, Shurwayne Winchester, Patrice Roberts, Nailah Blackman and much more. Mical Teja is also known as the producer behind Olatunji's “Bodyline” which set stages ablaze on the famous “The X-Factor” and as a result he has already been recognised for his contributions to the local art form with a Cultural Award. Trinidad and Tobago Carnival 2023 truly proved to be a breakout year for Mical with his two hit singles, Hall of Fame and Mas “Come Again”. Mical proved to be a staple within the Trinidad and Tobago Carnival 2023 Calendar and he gained further recognition regionally and internationally which led to many notable opportunities such as an extremely successful Tour Season. Mical was able to showcase his undeniable talent with performances throughout the United States of America, Toronto, Canada and several Caribbean islands. The highlights of his 2023 Tour Season was being booked to perform as far as Japan for the Japan Soca Weekend, The Cariwest Arts Festival in Edmonton, Canada and headlining Caribbean Night of the International Arts and Ideas Festival in New Haven, Connecticut which also boasted of a star studded cast such as the Grammy Award winning Angelique Kidjo and Jon Secada. Mical has truly surpassed many expectations and continues on a path of continued growth in order to achieve the true zenith of his success.

The Artiste
In the year 2020, Mical Teja solidified himself as a performing Artiste. His hit song “Birthday”has become a cultural staple, as the official song for anyone celebrating life. He broke-through to the International Soca Monarch Finals with another hit song, “Bumper Murder; a collaboration with soca veteran Kerwin DuBois. This is where he fully launched himself as Mical Teja the Artiste. Teja, motivated and driven to achieve continued growth and success as a performing Artiste created the “24hr Riddim” in 2021. Here, he wrote and produced all four (4) tracks on the said Riddim but it was his collaboration “Honrin First” with Viking Ding Dong that stood out amongst the rest. This song was a major success which placed them 3 rd in the 2021 International Soca Monarch Competition “The Monarch”. Mical Teja is not limited by genre or trend. This is identified by his songs “Flava” and “Romantic” which form part of the Afro Soca genre of music. He aims to appeal to the masses worldwide with the music he creates and performs. Mical also played a very instrumental role during the early stages of the Covid-19 pandemic and its arrival to Trinidad and Tobago by releasing his song titled “Strength of God” which was used to uplift and bring hope to the people of the nation and by extension the world during such trying times. Mical Teja creates music not only for singing along, dancing and enjoyment but also for motivation and confidence building in the person that listens to the music he creates. He takes his time to craft the verses of his songs and to send various messages through his music in a humorous and fun manner which can be easily enjoyed by any person and age group across the world. Trinidad and Tobago is known as the birthplace of the steelpan, calypso and soca music, carnival and so much more. It is also home to some of the greatest cultural icons in the Caribbean. Mical Teja’s “Hall of Fame” pays homage to the icons of Trinidad and Tobago that paved the way for artistes such as himself to have a platform to create, express and positively impact the people of a nation through music. The song also gives people a sense of hope knowing that despite the recent global changes that occurred things are slowly but surely getting back to a place of normalcy. MAS is the freedom to be! From the spirit of the Moko to the boldness of the Jab or the pride of the Jammette. We in our own unique way identify with the portrayal and spirits embedded in these characters. It’s as though on those two days of the greatest show on earth who we truly are comes alive through an explosion of colour, culture and character.

In the year 2022, Mical Teja released his song “Dingolay” featuring Nailah Blackman. This song became a staple for the re-emergence of Carnival in Trinidad and Tobago stemming from the Covid-19 pandemic. The song was an instant hit locally and across the Caribbean, however it has travelled even further to countries such as Australia and Japan making it an international success.

The Activist

Mical Teja is a Caribbean innovator, a young creative leader, and is set to take the world by storm. He is also a part of the “Community Re-Developers” an NGO focused on infrastructure projects in communities, skills training, and more. Mical recently worked with his NGO on restoring the Kailash Mandir in Gonzales, Port of Spain. The Writer & Producer Dingolay Mical Teja’s 2022 hit “Dingolay” featuring Nailah Blackman was reveled far and wide from the twin island republic of Trinidad and Tobago to Fiji and beyond. Mind My Business Mical Teja is also instrumental as the writer of Patrice Roberts major hit “Mind my Business”. This song is internationally acclaimed and is being sung and enjoyed by celebrities such as Michelle Williams of Destiny’s Child and much more. Shake The Place Ft. Nicki Minaj Some say a timeless classic that just missed out on the Trinidad and Tobago Carnival 2023 Road March. This song was co-written and produced by Mical and continues to make waves throughout the Carnival circuit worldwide.

DNA

The cultural identity and patriotism of both Trinbagonian and Caribbean people can be heard in Mical Teja’s melodious and sweet rhythms of DNA. He describes in perfect detail how we celebrate, express ourselves and the uniqueness that makes us who and what we are. He creates that euphoric atmosphere whilst also singing in a poetic tone that strikes on the heart strings of the listener from the line of the song. From the mix of live instrumentation with a futuristic pop like feel, DNA has all the emotions as the perfect pick me up song to get your day started.

RUNAWAY

Mical Teja’s melodious contribution “Runaway” was created as an escape for anyone experiencing the daily mental or physical challenges of life and wishes to leave their troubles behind even if it’s just for a few minutes to achieve some form of relief. This relief is achieved by his use of simple, calming lyrics with an easily remembered tagline “ Ah Need A Lil Runaway!” When you pop in your headphones or turn your radio up to listen to this song you can find yourself entering that sweet escape where all your worries and stress are left behind and you are at a place of peace, comfort and fulfillment. The song has quickly become an anthem and motivator for foreigners all over the world who love to participate and enjoy the Greatest Show on Earth “Trinidad and Tobago Carnival”. The song gives them further encouragement to get their tickets, pack their bags and Runaway to be a part of a most memorable and fulfilling experience! It is an experience like no other and each and every year without fail persons are able to enjoy a country so rich in cultural traditions, food and so many more enlightening experiences that the island offers during their stay! The name of the female lead character who the storyline of the song is built upon pays homage to one of Trinidad and Tobago’s late cultural icons “Explainer”.
